THE SILMARILLION

Silmarils and ships
Give them freely when asked or
Lose them anyway

Beren Ring-bearer
Brings Doom to Nargothrond and
Finrod to his wolf

Shining Nauglamir
In the heart of Menegroth
Dark with Thingol's blood

Beleriand drowned,
And three kinslayings, all for
Some shiny pebbles?


THE HOBBIT

Under the mountain
Fear and riddles in the dark
What’s in my pockets?

Under the mountain
Brighter than gold, the dragon’s
Imperfect armour

Under the mountain
The burglar claims his share and
Steals the Arkenstone


THE LORD OF THE RINGS

Three rings for the Elves
Seven for the Dwarves and Nine
For Men with no brains

Bag End holds the One
Stymied. Hobbits only want
Mushrooms and hot baths

Unthinkable but
Doable with some effort:
Destroying the Ring


TO SUM UP

It would be nice if
Everyone were less obsessed
With their jewellery

I seem to remember you once wrote a similar haiku to the final one?
Here you are very cleverly leading up to the final conclusion!

Yes, it was the very first one. Then I realised that it actually applied to all the works, and was inspired. The "Hobbit" ones came first, so they are more artistically coherent.
