Thank you for your posts to this community over the last month!
Here is a thematic prompt and a formal challenge for November.
You can combine the thematic prompt and the formal challenge, but they can be filled entirely independently.
The thematic prompt is "Poppy".
This could be about Irmo's flowers of sleep, which are apparently a kind of poppy, but also allude to all or any of the resonances the flower has in our world. ("Poppy" is also the canonical name of one of Bilbo's more distant relatives.)
A bonus additional prompt, if you would like one, is "fire".
The formal challenge is to write an elegy, either in the narrower sense of a poem of mourning and memorial for the dead (also called a threnody), or in the wider sense of a poem of serious or melancholy reflection (on the history of the term see this Wikipedia article).
Usual reminder that although you can fill the thematic prompt any way you like, in order to post the fill to this community or to the related collection on AO3, the fanwork can only have a word count up to 1000 words and must be linked to a Tolkien fandom.
Rec lists and podfics can be posted as fills for thematic prompts, as long as the fanworks concerned meet those conditions.
The next challenge will be posted at the beginning of December and will be an amnesty month. However, the prompts don't expire, in any case, and late fills are always welcome! Also we continue to welcome other pieces unrelated to any challenge, of course, including cross-posts and older stories!
