Rating: G
Word Count: 100
Summary: Cirdan watches as Elrond, Galadriel and company sail into the West

Title: Midnight Hunt
Author: Michelle
Email: michelle [at] waking-vision.com
Summary: A wolf, on the hunt for its mate.
Fandom: Lord of the Rings
Series: Untamed
Timeline: TA, 3017
Pairing: Aragorn/Legolas
Genre: Slash
Rating: General Audiences
Disclaimer: Aragorn and Legolas are Tolkien’s creation. I just like to make them kiss sometimes.
Author’s Note: Written for [community profile] fandomweekly, Prompt #245 „Werewolf“, it won first place. Since this vignette is all vibes and no plot, it could happen anywhere in the timeline. I decided on TA 3017, which would set this in Mirkwood during the time when Aragorn delivers Gollum to the woodelves. I would imagine he manages to take a little off-time while he’s in Mirkwood. All work and no play makes a ranger cranky, after all!

The ingredients in question were taken from two potential recipes for lembas bread, found here and here.

Warnings: canonical dragonish behaviour
Word Count: c. 120 words
Summary: Like Smaug, Scatha, ice drake of the north, keeps track of his hoard.
Author notes: For the January challenge (small comforts, list of ingredients). Inspired by my discovery of Tolkien's poem about Scatha in the recently published Collected Poems (I'm afraid those bones are canonical even if their exact number is not).

I'm back with an old story of mine. It's 100 words over the 1000 word limit, but I'm posting it here, because it is fixed length (five double drabbles + one drabble) and I'm still quite proud of it after all these years. I hope that's okay - if not, I apologize. Feel free to wield your admin powers!

Title: Way of the World
Author: Michelle
Email: michelle [at] waking-vision.com
Summary: A story of fathers and sons and of gifts given, told in five double drabbles and one drabble.
Beta: Nancy
Genre: gen
Rating: K
Disclaimer: “The Lord of the Rings”, its characters and settings are J.R.R. Tolkien’s marvellous idea. No harm is intended.
Author's Note: I’ve wanted to write one of these “Five Times...” stories for ages now, but never managed. And even this one went away with me a little. Still, if you squint just so, it could also be titled “Five Times Aragorn Takes up a Sword and One Time He Doesn’t”. The idea for this vignette comes from Arturo Pérez-Reverte’s novel “El maestro de esgrima”“ (“The Fencing Master”). Written for the June 2010 Teitho Contest, The Student Surpasses the Teacher

And here is the last of the four ficlets written for Fellowshipofthefics prompt list. I'll go back to longer stories for a bit. Let's see when the next ficlet-bunny bites.

Series: Cupid
Genre: slash, romance
Rating: General Audiences
Disclaimer: I shoot arrows at elves and rangers and hope no one notices.
Author’s Note: This was written for Fellowshipofthefics’ Summer Stories 2024 prompt list, week four „love“ (couldn’t resist). This, too, is fixed-length and stands at 333 words as counted in OpenOffice.

Title: Into the Forest, where it is thickest
Author: Michelle

Summary: Aragorn and Legolas start to go in the same direction.
Series: Cupid
Pairing: Aragorn/Legolas
Genre: slash, slight humour
Rating: General Audiences
Disclaimer: I shoot arrows at elves and rangers and hope no one notices.
Author’s Note: This was written for Fellowshipofthefics’ Summer Stories 2024 prompt list, for week three’s prompt „Lost“. This one is fixed-length again, 444 words as counted in OpenOffice. And in those 444 words I actually managed to go AU. Someone stop me! Title comes from „Hänsel and Gretel“ by the Brothers Grimm.

Pairing: Aragorn/Legolas
Series: Cupid
Genre: slash, humour
Rating: R
Disclaimer: I shoot arrows at elves and rangers and hope no one notices.
Author’s Note: Still not gaining any points with my summaries here … but I swear, I’m just being truthful. This was written for Fellowshipofthefics’ Summer Stories 2024 prompt list for week two’s prompt “exploration”. The ficlet is fixed-length and crosses the finish line with exactly 444 words.

This is actually a continuation of the short ficlet "Cupid" I posted here a while back, but it can be read on its own if you so desire. Also, I know I'm late for this particular fixed-length challenge (that was last month, wasn't it?), but the idea sounded fun, so I tried it.

Title:
Down By The River
Author: Michelle
Email: michelle [at] waking-vision.com
Summary: Aragorn is hot.
Pairing: Aragorn/Legolas
Series: Cupid
Genre: slash, humour
Rating: R
Disclaimer: I shoot arrows at elves and rangers and hope no one notices.
Author’s Note: This is the silliest summary I’ve come up with in the last 20 years. And yet it sums up the plot, so we’ll all have to live with it. This was written for Fellowshipofthefics’ Summer Stories 2024 prompt list for week one’s prompt “heatwave”. The ficlet is fixed-length and crosses the finish line with exactly 555 words.

And here is something new for you. I recently discovered Flash Fiction Friday and while I'll never be able to write something in 24 hours (even if it's short), I got inspired. Who cares if it's late. I didn't want to bother my beta with something this short; I hope I didn't mess up too badly. Enjoy!

Here I am, again with a ficlet from my backlist. I can promise you something new as well, either today or tomorrow. Got inspired for something short again!

Summary: A ranger’s first love is always for the land.
Beta: Lee-Anne
Genre: gen
Rating: G
Disclaimer: Arda and her Gods are Tolkien’s creation, but the world belongs to everyone and is for everyone to enjoy.
Author’s Note: This ficlet started out as Aragorn’s thoughts while he is wandering the Wilds. In the end, it turned out to be a more general ode-to-the-world, so you can make up your own narrator, it does not necessarily have to be Aragorn. Written for the Middle Earth Express on Aragorn Angst, for the prompt #6: outdoors.

Title: The Marsh Where the Dead Sleep
Characters: None
Pairing: None
Text type / Format: Poem
Source / Fandom: The Lord of the Rings (books and films)
Rating: PG
Warnings: Canon typical creepy stuff
Word Count: 465
Summary:

“They lie in all the pools, pale faces, deep deep under the dark water. I saw them: grim faces and evil, and noble faces and sad. Many faces proud and fair, and weeds in their silver hair. But all foul, all rotting, all dead...”

- 'The Passage of the Marshes' from The Two Towers by J. R. R. Tolkien.

Author notes: A poem, written for the Tolkien Short Fanworks January challenge. The formal challenge was 'cumulative'; the rhythm and structure of the poem was inspired by The House That Jack Built. The thematic challenge was 'building'. I was aiming for a slow build of tension – not sure if that counts!

This poem takes a few liberties with the Dead Marshes and its inhabitants as depicted in the book. It's influenced by, but not totally aligned to, the film version. I think it's probably a children's poem from the Fourth Age or later.
