Actually, three young dwarves could carry you. The only reason that six volunteer is that they know you bruise easily now. So much hurts—inside and out. In far-off lands, you are a figure of fun. Here, they know better.

You dream yourself back into old dreams. The wood’s mirk turns green. The Elvenking toasts you in something light and sparkling, as you yourself have become light and sparkling. The food tastes wonderful, but you don’t need much of it at all, because they are all there, all alive still and not even grumbling at you, just out of sight…

I have always been fond of Bombur.
