Author: Himring
Title: Tall ships and tall kings
Text type / Format: prose (drabble)
Source / Fandom: Lord of the Rings (and other writings about the Third Age)
Rating: Teens
Word Count: 100
Summary: Reflections on the Dunedain and Numenor, for the October challenge. The line used as prompt also provides the title.
The Numenoreans stand tall in the memories of their descendants, those that the ships carried to safety in Arnor and Gondor. They loom larger perhaps than they did even in the heyday of their power and prosperity, those ever-present ancestors. The Dunedain are in danger of being overshadowed, of allowing themselves to be dwarfed by comparison with that which no longer exists. Yet they are themselves tall, themselves kings and shipbuilders—and more than that, provided they allow themselves to grow.
If they do not cling to the past, they could even learn to value the humble and the small.
A/N: Also for a tolkien100 prompt: presence of ancestors.
