Characters: OFCs
Pairing: n/a
Text type / Format: ficlet (drabble)
Source / Fandom: Silmarillion, Akallabeth

Summary: At the time when tensions between the King's Men and the Elf-friends in Numenor worsened, the haven of the Elf-friends in Middle-earth was Pelargir.
Author notes: Originally written for a song lyrics prompt from Elleth at an Insta-drabbling session on the SWG Discord on 1 March, but I've revised it for the March challenge.
She sat beside her grandmother’s deathbed. Pelargir was her home, but for Abârêth it had been a willingly chosen exile: long years of risk undertaken to set up a network for the rescue of those who had drawn the wrath of the King’s Men while trying to learn how to live here, navigating the unknowns of politics, weather, customs...
‘You could go back,’ she’d said, volunteering to accompany her to Armenelos, because Abârêth still went misty-eyed at any mention of the Meneltarma. Abârêth had shrugged it off and gone on teaching her the ropes. Oh, to be a worthy successor!
A/N: The name Abârêth is from Kimikocha's name list (used with thanks): it is made up of a noun meaning "strength, fidelity", with a female suffix.
