Text type / Format: poetry, double drabble
Source / Fandom: The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales
Rating: T

Author notes: Written for this month's challenge. It relates to prompt A in imagery and prompt C in theme . . . Also written for the [community profile] drabble_zone prompt "island" (which is why it's a double drabble). Title may change if I think of one I like better.

Title: Seven Lanterns
Characters: Fëanor, Finrod, Túrin, Elrond & Eärendil, Gilraen, Faramir & Boromir, The White Tree
Text type / Format: poetry
Source / Fandom: The Silmarillion & The Lord of the Rings
Rating: T
Warnings: implied/referenced canonical character death and other sad events
Word Count: 74
Summary: Seven poems in the lantern(e) form.
Author notes: Written for January's formal challenge. I wanted to try writing lanterne poems, but then I couldn't stop at one! Seven seemed like a good Tolkien-ish number. I put symmetry in the choice of characters/relationships as well: three from the Silm, three from LOTR, and one in the middle that links the two. (Mod, may I have character tags for Finrod and Gilraen?)

Title: Lament
Characters: RĂan
Text type / Format: poetry
Source / Fandom: The Silmarillion
Rating: T
Warnings: Choose Not To Warn
Word Count: 122
Summary: My heart goes calling, calling, / Like a small bird in the leaves.
Author notes: Written for the 2022 amnesty, for the thematic prompt "harvest" (September 2022) and the formal challenge "quatrains" (April 2021). I realized on rereading that I hadn't actually used the word harvest, though I was sure I had . . . But I sometimes get music running through my head while I'm writing, and for this it was the opening chorus of Mendelssohn's Elijah: "The harvest now is over, the summer days are gone, and yet no power cometh to help us." Also written for fffc 2022 Winter Calendar for the prompt "four calling birds".
